Breaking Away
Selena breathed in the warm, fresh air. It was so much easier to breathe in Austin than in New York. And not just because Austin seemed like a nicer city…
She set down her luggage on the smooth pavement and breathed again. Time to scout out the city. Picking up her bags again, she set off down the long sidewalk, heading towards the looming capital.
Austin. A fresh start, a new life, a different identity. Selena brushed back her dark hair. She was beginning to feel good about this.
A little while later, she stepped into a small cafe for lunch. Selena had just settled down at an iron table on the alfresco patio with a chicken wrap when a hand gripped her shoulder.
Fear encircled Selena’s heart like a thorny vine. “Yes?” she said slowly, not daring to turn around. “What do you want?”
“You know what I want,” hissed a deep, masculine voice in her ear. The hand gripping her shoulder yanked her away.
