Room 202 (Haunted House Challenge)
“Goodness! How will we afford to pay for this?”
“Never worry, dear,” he said, fastening his vest with a smile. “You just play your part and we’ll be in like Flynn.” He leaned in and gave her a kiss atop her raven haired head. “Our days of grifting are soon over.”
She turned in her chair where she was applying her make-up and gave a half-smile in return. “I’ve heard that one before,” she admonished. Standing, she cinched the draws of her white robe tight and headed off to the bathroom. “This time I’m holding you to it,” she added, closing the door behind her.
“Trust me, dear! It’s in the bag.”
There was a knock at the door. He walked up and asked, “Who is—”
The door crashed open, knocking him to the ground. Two goons were instantly on top of him. The bathroom door opened and she found herself a frozen witness to the fray. Her perfume sprayer fell from her hand and shattered on the tile floor.
A third goon stepped over the tussel and approached her, hands outstretched.
This was indeed their last grift.
