Conversation Leads to Realization
And then we began slight small talk, discussing the most random of topics. And then Redley turned to me, “I know I shouldn’t intrude, but I wish to hear about the one before me of yours…Cardinal or whatever.”
My face froze, “I don’t want to speak of it…and his name is Robin.”
“Oh?”
“And…we loved each other so much or so I thought.” I felt the tears coming, but I was no weak any longer. I was not going to break down. “Yes, isn’t he now engaged to….what’s her name…Maple?”
“Willow and yes. But I faulted first by becoming engaged to you first.”
“Do you still love him?”
“Goodness no. He has decided to marry some…cruel sick feline instead of I.” I choked at the end of that statement, and he knew I was lying. “I’m sorry dear Evelyn.” Redley said as he pulled me into an embrace, muffling my sobs.
It was then I realized Redley’s arm were soft, yet tough at the same time…if that made much sense. He wasn’t all that bad after all.
Perhaps I could marry him after all.
