Something Odd on the Overhead Projector
“What the heck is that thing?” Audrey whispered over her shoulder to me. It was the second period of a school day that promised to be just as dull as the last (and the one before that, too). Until now, of course. Sitting on the top of the overhead projector at the front of our class room was what appeared to be some strange hybrid of a monkey and a fox.
“I have no clue,” I said, reflecting the expressions of just about all of our classmates. There was a lot of excited babble throughout the History room. I sat down at my desk. Though the board said to take out our notes on Hinduism and Ancient India, no one was really paying attention, especially since Mrs. Herr was nowhere in sight.
“Hey, Adrian,” Amanda asked me from across the aisle. “Do you know what that thing is?”
“Nope,” I said as Derik, a boy in my class, started towards the front of the class room. He reached out a hand to try to pet the bizarre monkey-fox hybrid. I held my breath. I knew that he was about to get bitten.
