No Words
The field stretched before her, seeming to be filled with tiny suns. The desert dandelions reached their faces toward the light, fighting to be visible like so many actors on a stage.
She walked carefully, trying not to crush any of the delicate blossoms that had sprung up over night. Among all of the yellow, she searched for red…that little red cap sticking up from the field, to tell her that he was still there.
Then she saw it, a knee and the bill of his red hat appearing among the flowers like a blessing. She felt the smile spread across her face as she saw his knee wave back and forth like a flower in the wind.
She snuck up on him, crawling forward and kissing his forehead before she fell down beside him. He didn’t look over at her, he just grabbed her hand and squeezed it tight. They both stared up at the sun, hands clasped and bodies pressed together, glad that they could be next to each other, even for an hour.
There was no need for words.
