A Door in the Clouds
Lillian’s entire body shook from the cold. Her teeth were about to chatter their way out of her skull.
She clung desperately to the rope. There was no way to get down now. Squinching her way up a little more, she tried not to cry. The tears would only freeze on her cheeks.
She had to keep going.
For more than an hour, Lillian inched herself farther up the rope. She was beginning to lose hope of ever getting anywhere when the rope started moved. Up.
Was it being pulled? Was she being reeled in like some kind of fish? Lillian closed her eyes and suddenly felt herself coming to a halt. Slowly, she opened one eye, then the other.
Lillian was standing on a cloud. A marble platform was built to rest on top of the fluffy structure, and before her was a tall polished door. Just a door.
She walked around and checked the other side. The back of a door.
Open it.
Lillian grasped the shiny doorknob and pulled.
