On That Faithful Day

There I was sitting around the big round tree on Christmas day.

I was bugging ma and pa to hurry up there breakfast so we could get on with the gift.

My mother hushed me, every time I did get a little too excited.

My father handed down his watch for me to fix, at least it got my mind off the Christmas gifts.

Once ma and pa were finally finished there breakfast the rest of family had come down from there slumbers.

They were not as excited as I was to open the presents.

My brother requested a family photo, I mumbled in my voice knowing I would have to wait longer for my presents. After a long time standing, my father tapped me on the shoulders and told me to pick a gift.

I ran to the biggest present, nothing was going to stop me from tearing that to shreds.

As it was the gift I asked for a vintage train set, before I was able to get into the box.
I saw my father grasping his chest and collapsing to the floor.

There was my father restless on the ground, grasping for air.
