Remembering Everything
I opened a word document and started writing.
Everything.
Every tiny little insignificant memory not already on my computer at home.
Everything.
I barely looked up when Paige said goodnight.
Everything.
I wrote until I was sure I would pass out from exhaustion. I pounded out key after key, thought after thought, emotion after emotion.
And then…
There was nothing more to write. I stared at the screen blankly, the absolute emptiness filling through every part of me. The pearly grey morning was beginning to filter through the window as I sat, alone by the computer.
I hit enter a few times and wrote one word.
Darkness
I thought for a moment about the months of emptiness. The months of loneliness.
“Drew?” Paige’s soft voice emanated from the doorway. I spun to face her and she rushed forward, her face filled with concern. “Wait!” I cried, stopping her in her tracks.
I stared at her a moment, and then turned back to the screen. I hit enter a few more times.
And then… there was Paige.
