Re-embrace

His hands were icy cold; hard as stone, and unbreakable to me. Compared to me, I was like a fragile lotus, attracted to danger and totally naked to embarrassment.
I waited patiently for his answer because I was in no hurry to hear his rejection to me. Maybe his rejection would overthrow my past rejection and strengthen my wounds.
He squeezed my fingers tightly and caught himself a breathe of warm air before he let it run through our entwined fingers.
What came out of his mouth was a shocker to me, and I had never even expected it. I didn’t expect fate to turn against me.
“Of course,” he answered smiling his angel face.
That innocent, cradling face was mine, wasn’t it? He had just accepted my proposal to prom. My proposal.
“Why?” I murmured, letting out a quiet, terrifying screech. I could feel that lump in the center of my throat. I was going to cry, and he would be there to nestle me in his arms.
He only smiled and embraced me tight to him while I let out my cries.
I already knew the answer.
