All Hallow's Eve: A Ring

Later that same night, Vivian was sitting up in her bedchambers, too restless and weary to let sleep claim her.

After pacing the room’s length more than a dozen times, Vivian seated herself at the window, content with the light of the moon for now.

Her house was not anything grand or mighty, but it served her purpose. It was all she had left, and Vivian was not about to let that go so easily.

Leaning back, Vivian took her right hand and turned the palm towards her, carefully watching the ring glint in the gray lighting.

“Oh, Christian…it was such a waste,” she murmured, stroking the ring with her left hand’s thumb. “Everything…”

Vivian knew that her composure had no bearing at such a time. Judith was asleep, exhausted by Elizabeth’s escapades. The thought made her smile wryly. She had already been tried and tested as a mother.

She never wanted to experience it again.

Adéle, on the other hand, was a resilient girl.

Her childhood must have been harsh.

Vivian turned back to her window.
