“Okay, whoa there.” I tried to fend his smug expression off by waving my hands in his face. “Uncharted territory. Turn back!”
“Nah, I think danger is fun.”
“What’s with the mood swings?! Get away from me!”
“Why? Are you feeling flustered?”
“Ack! Go away! Keep away!”
I inched backwards in my bed, my heart pounding in my chest. It’s official: Raine is crazy! He’s completely bonkers, out there, nutso, gone bananas – whatever you want to call it!
“What is wrong with you today? I shouldn’t have said anything at all! Dammit, I shouldn’t have called you up for cocoa!”
He grinned at me.
”’Shouldn’t’, right? That means you didn’t.”
“Don’t go philosophical on me, buddy! It isn’t going to work!”
Our noses were only inches apart when I heard Mrs. McCarthy’s voice coming from downstairs.
“Aidan! Your friend is calling!”
Slipping out of his near grasp, I found myself shakily standing by the doorway.
“I guess I’ll…see you later.”
I shut the door behind me, my heart still going crazy.
