Her letter said:

Dear Essie,

Wow! It seems like forever since we last talked. Time goes by so fast, doesn’t it? Firstly, I just want to say that I’m so sorry I haven’t written or called sooner. My life has just been…well, really complicated. But I’ll talk about that later.
Right now, I want to know how you are. Did you have a good summer? I hope you had a lot of fun at camp. Even though we haven’t seen each other in a while, I still want you to know how much you mean to me as a friend. We’ve been soul sisters since 1st grade, and you were to me, as to many people, a ray of sunshine. I know that I haven’t been the best friend that I should be, and I sincerely apologize for this.
I know you have been through some storms this year, and I wish I had been more of a shoulder to cry on. After all, you were always there for me. I wish I made it easier for you to confide in me. We could’ve really helped each other sort things out.
