The Life Changing Question II

With an air of shock, I placed my breadstick back along the side of the bowl. My eyes wavered on the piece of food for only a second, and then they were once again on the eyes of my partner. Still attempting to translate his body language, I struggled into my first paragraph since he had broken the news.

“You… you want me to… to… to go to… to Paris?”

Guiliano and I lived quite comfortably in a quaint seaside loft on the Californian coast, and that was the main cause of my absolute disbelief. We were so comfortable where we were, and I saw no need to pick up, leave everything behind, and move to a European capital.

“Yes, sweetie, Paris. It really is the best plan for us.” Guili’s gorgeously azul eyes stayed glued onto my own, which always sent shivers up and down my spine. “So, what do you think?”

Finally breaking our gaze, I took my eyes out to the horizon, breathing in the spaciousness of the Pacific Ocean. I could never imagine living in a landlocked city, a city where no one knew me…
