The doorknob turned and she swung around to face the door so fast that the ponytail landed on the top of her shoulder, cascading down the front of her shirt. Gulp, Joe thought, standing up straight as Adam entered the room.

“Well,â€? Adam spoke casually, “the water spigot needs to be changed -.â€?

“Any other problems?â€? Kate demanded, tilting her head slightly to one side.

“It has a shower, not a tub,â€? Adam said pointedly.

“So?â€? Now her hands were on her hips, a gesture Joe had not seen in real life.

“So, I remember how much you like bubble baths.â€?

Joe blinked several times; Kate and bubble bath kept playing in his mind.

“Adam,â€? her hands slipped off her hips and her shoulders sagged again. Damn, Joe silently cursed. “That’s sweet.â€?

“I also remember how much I like taking them with you,â€? Adam said, looking at Joe after he said it. Kate walked over and hugged him, nuzzling his neck.

“Did you notice how nice the floor is?â€? Joe spoke suddenly. “Linoleum’s very easy to care for.â€?
