“Oh, be honest,” Joe blurted out suddenly, “you don’t want to live with him either.”
“What?” Great, the only thing they ever agreed on.
“Remember that apartment on Main?” Joe’s sudden outburst had emboldened him, and he came around the counter to walk in between Adam and Kate. “You loved it. It was close to work, had a great view, it was on the first floor of a private neighborhood, had essentially everything you’re looking for – at a hundred dollars less than you wanted to pay.â?
“What about it?â? Kate’s voice suggested she might not want to hear.
“Do you remember why you didn’t get it?â? She shook her head. “Because he thought the ceiling was six inches too low.â?
“I don’t like a low ceiling,â? Adam said defensively.
“I’m taller than you and I couldn’t touch it,â? Joe pointed out. He looked back at Kate, “And you just said, ‘OK, I wouldn’t want you to be uncomfortable.’â?
“That doesn’t make sense.â? Um, no. “Why would I do that?â?
