And Then She Slipped Away

He could hardly stand to see her cry. Especially when her eyes caught the sun like this. It’s not you, it’s me. He spoke.
You think I don’t know? She asked. You think I enjoy melting and turbulent waters? You think I like being a “homewrecker”, literally? You think I enjoy sweltering heat?
I tried to change. He pleaded.
But, not hard enough. I’m the only one you have, you can’t go anywhere else.
It was just so hard! No matter what I did, Nothing got better.
Ha. Walking, instead of driving, down the street is hard? Recycling all those plastic bottles was hard? You didn’t try long enough to make a difference. I’m sorry. This is goodbye. With those final words, she slipped away.
