Back Into Society
Richard spit on her boots. “I want nothing of your riches.” He scowled. Once again, Red Moscow’s hand slapped his face, leaving a pink mark. He touched her shin. “What has London done to you?” He asked, weeping bitterly.
“I left London long ago, and never looked back.” Her lips trembled involuntarily. Mumurs were heard again. Was their fearless Captain crying?
“It has changed, you know.” Richard said finally.
“You can change laws, but not hearts.” She shook her head, and at last the tears came. These were not tears for only today; these were the tears that had been inside for years.
“We have chosen different paths, but perhaps, it is not too late to retrace steps.” With the crew talking, no one was holding him, so he stood up.
“What?”
“Let me go, and come back with me.”
“They’d just as soon kill me.”
“Not if I prove that you can be intergrated into society.”
“I- I don’t know.”
“Come now, you can’t say that you’re afraid?” He smiled slowly.
