A Sequence Isolated

He went crazy from one note. He couldn’t get it out of his head. I think it was an A.

Henry couldn’t help but think of Seinfeld’s offhand reference to the composer, Robert Schumann. Certainly the Pulse was more complex than a single note, but his interest in it was well beyond mere curiosity now.

He also recognized the irony that Aaron had warned him that he would become a Scrooge if he didn’t take a break from schoolwork, and now it was the Pulse that Henry first experienced in Aaron’s home that was causing him to skip Christmas.

Christmas and New Year’s. He was now missing the two biggest holidays of the year, his parents were concerned that he was isolating himself so much, but Henry believed it would all be worth it.

In the end, it took three iterations to finish. Henry got most of it in the first cycle, filled in the gaps in the second, double-checked himself in the third.

Three weeks. Henry was exhausted, but at last he’d completely isolated the sequence of the Pulse.
