Stumbling In The Dark

“Don’t ask me to tell you what I don’t fully understand!” Frisay cried. They walked in silence for a few moments, before James looked at his watch.
“Crap, I missed dinner. My wife will be so pissed. I just hope she doesn’t find out I’m walking in a meadow with another woman.”
“That’s the least of your problems.” She smiled. “At least you got to see me somewhere other than the train.” James smiled wryly.
“Lovely.” The sun had set a while ago and without the light of James’ cellphone, they’d have stumbled more times than they already had.
“You should call her.” Frisay said, while avoiding a few rocks.
“Who? My wife?” She nodded. “I suppose.” But he made no action to do so.
“She’s terribly worried. I mean, she must be terribly worried.”
“Mmm.” Still, his fingers did not touch the dial.
“Call her, damn it!” Frisay’s eyes were jet-black. Finally, He called.
“Sorry I missed dinner, darling… No, I don’t know when I’ll be home… There were some…difficulties with the train. Love you, too.” He hung up.
