a miracle

Matt trudged out into the rain, his hood covering his headphones so they wouldn’t get wet.
“Crap.” He thought, glancing to his side at Nancy leaving her house. His keys dangled from his index finger, while he stood in contemplation, though he knew what he would end up deciding.
“Nancy,”
“Matt?” She said squinting her eyes to see him through the fog.
“Yeah Nance, it’s me.Need a ride?” He pushed his hair out of his face, his childish smile masking his unease.
“Thanks.” She laughed, pushing her umbrella down as she got into the car.
“No problem.”

The school parking lot seemed empty, then again it always seemed that way 2 hours before school. Matt grabbed his bag from behind his seat.
“Hey Matt,” Nancy stared ahead.
“Yeah?”
In that moment Matt’s life had a sense of meaning. He had never understood bliss until now, as Nancy pressed her lips softly against his before hopping out of the car and heading into the buildings. “Wow,” he thought, “I should wish on comets more often.”
