Crumpled

The blonde waitress gave him a curious look as he sat slumped over the bar, obviously not intoxicated.

‘What’s your story,’ She questioned while wiping a glass with a towel.

‘You obviously aren’t one of the regulars’

‘I, I don’t know to be honest. You see, I found this damned piece of paper and its all I could think about for days. I’m such a blasted fool. I should just go, it was a waste for me to come here.’

He picked himself up as he slid off the barstool. The waitress put down the glass and moved from behind the bar following him as he made his way to the door.

‘Wait,’ she called out to him.

Adam turned around to face her, he wasn’t accustomed to women beckoning to him.

‘You mentioned a paper,’ she said inquisitively.

Without a word, Adam pulled the ratty paper from his pocket and handed it to her with an outstretched arm. She took it from him, slowly opening its folds and smiled warmly. She looked at Adam and gave him the same smile.
