What Not To Tell Your Girlfriend

“Shut up,” she said firmly, glaring back, the love gone from her eyes.
John stared back at his girlfriend, his salvation, “But, but, I just thought you should know.” Out of nowhere a delicate hand shot across John’s face with a resounding slap.
“Maybe I’m tired of knowing. Maybe I just want to live my life as it’s supposed to be.”
“But there’s time, time before..”
“Don’t even start!” and her hand was once again raised, ready to strike.
“I just wanted to…”
“Play god?” she countered.
“Hey,” he said, a little indignant now, “It’s not like I’m going to kill her.” Once again a lightning quick hand shot across his face, the other cheek this time.
“Never talk to me again,” she stated clearly, slowly. The tears welled up in her eyes as she spun on her heels and marched away. John could only watch her go, the one thing he didn’t see coming. For all his gifts and premonitions, he still didn’t understand people.
“I’m sorry,” he said softly to the empty space, “your mom’s still going to die.”
