superseded nastolgia 1
the fresh smell of a brand new baby,
blurry eyed and open mind to a wide world of “everything is amazing”,
can’t help but to hold his little hands and kiss his little feet,
the almost painfull love down in your chest
that chokes you when his first smile shines and you know this must be why God made heaven,
and your ears deft to the alarm clock for atleast a half an hour before
can now hear a yawn from thirty feet away,
gerber stains on a new shirt and that smile again
when he splashes around the tub and he finds his laughter,
wrapped and bowed around you soul,
you catch yourself watching him sleep for twenty minutes
so you get up and put the electrical outlet protectors every-where
and instal those tedious cabinet locks because he’s crawling now
and those first steps so monumentous for both of you came and went in a blink,
“I love you too” is usually just a retort for him busy with his tonka and g.i. Joe
but its a candle in the window for you
