First Glimpse
As Matt walked up the walkway, staring at the huge mansion in front of him, he wondered what it was going to be like living there. Would he ever accomplish the task of exploring all of it?
Thunder roared overhead as he made his way past huge windows, none of which he could see into. It seemed as though there was dark coming from the house, the way light does. Matt looked up, and saw only one window with a light in it. The window was actually a balcony, now that he got a good look at it. The thing that surprised him, though, was not the light, but what he saw bathed in it.
Leaning against the railing, crying, was a pale girl. She couldn’t have been more than sixteen, Matt though. She was alarmingly thin, and had long, fine, white-blonde hair. Matt could see her face clearly. Her lips were full and very red, as if she had bitten them. Her eyes were a shocking shade of green.
Matt was only seventeen himself, but the girl seemed so small and fragile, that at first he mistook her for a little girl.
