Coward or King?

“I want you to understand, Vorenus. Many regarded your father as timid and pigeon hearted, traveling almost incessantly from his castle in Zor to the others in his domain. He was therefore required to gamble on the loyalty of his constables for the shielding of his other strongholds. This did not work out in his favor and he lost a considerable portion of Zor to King Drusus.” Anung said. He took a hit off the soapstone pipe and leaned back in his chair.

“But Anung you can’t think that – you yourself said that he was a guarded man, but he always thought of Zor.” King Vorenus said pacing as he spoke.

“Yes, that is true.”

“But why would you speak ill of him. He thought of you as a son and -“

“Stop!” Anung said, holding up his hairy left hand.

“You can’t-”

“Stop! In the two great battles fought to the bitter end, he saved all of Zor. He died a hero, but his faults created violence, strife, and disorder for many years to come. You would be wise to heed my advice, Vorenus. I am your only
ally.”
