City in Their Minds

“Oh, okay. Go ahead. It really is a beautiful view.” The statement came out of Rebecca’s mouth with an air of confused disbelief and utter amazement at the same time.

Kevin smiled, and Rebecca melted silently as she tilted her head back down towards her desk.

Rushing back to the damp night in the city, Rebecca’s heart skipped a beat. A smile found its way yet again onto her wet face, and Rebecca fiddled with the small diamond solitare on her ring finger. Ever so small, she loved it for the same reason she loved Kevin; the rock held so many imperfections that it became even more perfect than Rebecca could have ever imagined, and it held so much love it seemed to radiate a warm heat right there on her finger, just the same as Kevin’s body seemed to let off a stream of steady calm. Taking off the ring, Rebecca read the inscription; “Together, forever, in the city within our minds.”
