The Magician
Burtininkas Richards watched as the crowd’s eyes lit up. “What you are about to see will defy all reason. Trust my right hand.” His right hand was pulled out of his pocket with flourish. ” Ladies and Gentlemen, I implore you. Stay in your seats.” Every seat was empty. The inhabitants had stood up to applaud as they say his right hand held a small light in its palm. It had not been in his pocket, up his sleeves, or previously in his hand; all these areas had been checked. What’s more, the light was lit and fully fuctional. Not a cord or wick in sight.

“Barnabas. I need a new assistant. Penelope has been… testy.” Burtininkas glared at his stage manager.
“Mr. Richards, this is the third one this week. Perhaps you should consider demanding less of them.”
“Mr. Edwards! A simple request that they do not fratenize with customers is asking too much? Have a replacement in time for tomorrow’s matinee. I have my best trick to plan.” Burtininkas waved him away with his hand.
