Decisions

“So it’s over than?”

“I guess.”

“You don’t seem happy with your decision.” The young man that sat beside her knew her well. He looked at her intently with blue eyes that somehow perfectly mirrored the ocean before them. Refusing to return the gaze, she stared straight into the calm water that occassionally lapped at her feet. She kept fidgiting with the lei the beautiful Hawaiian woman gave her two days earlier. Soon, the necklace broke, scattering the soft flowers around her.

He caught a flower before the water could overtake it and put it in her hair.

“Are you?”

The question slightly caught her off guard.

“Am I what?” Finally, she turned to him, letting their eyes meet. Her body tensed upon fully seeing him again.

“Happy with your decision?”

She bit her lip, unable to answer what appeared to be a simple yes or no question. Some flowers still lingered beside her, as if questioning whether to stay or take a chance and float away. She empathized with them.

“I don’t know anymore.”
