Math Class and Other Close Calls
English went smoothly (Monica wasn’t there, apparently got sick.)
History went smoothly.
Math class, however, did not.
I had forgotten that I had math class with Jake, though I have no idea how I did.
I suppose that I was just trying not to think about him, pushing him from my brain.
I wasn’t very good at this (the word ‘Jake’ somehow found it’s way into the middle of my essay) but obviously I was good enough to forget about math class.
But there he was. Two rows in front, three desks to the right.
I studied the problems on the board much closer, feeling his eyes on me.
After class he tried to talk to me, but I slipped out of the classroom.
Twice in the hall he nearly caught me.
He was waiting outside of my science classroom, too, but he didn’t have that class. So I just hid out one hall over until the warning bell rang and he had to leave, nearly making myself tardy.
But I did have to get home that night, so when he was standing next to my car after school there wasn’t really much I could do.
