The rain started to pour harder, the wind picked up. But Kaci really didnt care. Just because she was soaked didnt mean she would give in. She kept running harder and harder. Her mother’s voice left her head a long time ago and the prison cell most people call their bedroom was gone.The path was getting steeper, which meant she was getting closer. Once she got up the hill and turned the corner, she saw her target: the soccer field.For the first time all day, she smiled. The field was soaked, but there was a soccerball and the captain of the boys varsity team, just as promised. Ross smiled when he saw her face. He passed the ball to her, and soon they started talking.After hours of playing soccer, Kaci figured she had to go home. But this time she didnt have to run home.As Ross was telling her about how much fun he had, a cold arm grabbed Kaci’s, and it wasnt Ross’. Kaci’s mom grabbed her and pulled her to the car. Ross was so confused that he ran in front of the car to stop her, and Kaci’s mom didnt notice…
