Everything really changed that day, didn’t it? As a student, would you say that Columbine affected you more, or 9/11?

I didn’t understand columbine when it happened. In fact, I didn’t even know what it was until there was a shooting in my state. They contrasted it to columbine. For a while I was scared…but school is a place I feel safe. Always have.

9/11, however changed a lot of things. I noticed my teachers more zealously saying the pledge. I became more aware of political discussions. My cousin was in the army at the time, and people talking about a war all the time…it was scary.

Tears beginning.
