Dr. Lamb
“Please don’t tell me you’re backing out now.” Scarlet cut her eyes at Charlie. He wouldn’t answer. “Charlie,” she sighed, ” what is it?” Her eyes were fearful as he snapped his fingers. Once. Twice. Dr. Lamb appeared from the shadows.
“Hello, Scarlet.” He reached out to grab her, but she was too quick for the man who was shrunken with age.
“Charlie! You lied! You lied to me!” Scarlet fell into Dr. Lamb’s net with a thud.
“Do the police know?” He asked Charlie discreetly. Charlie shook his head. “Of course not.”
Scarlet bit and tore at her ropes in effort of getting free. Finally, she gave up and dissolved into a puddle of tears. “Scarlet?” Charlie whispered sadly. “I didn’t want to. Just like I didn’t want to miss your exhibit. But…Scarlet! You’re a criminal! What was I supposed to do?”
“Charlie. I may be a criminal, but I was your friend first!” She spat savagely. “What is going to do with me?” Scarlet lifted her chin in Dr. Lamb’s direction.
“I wish I knew.”
