Sleeping Beauty
Hidden deep within the wood,
In my wildlife-haven, my home,
I waltzed wildly, wishing naively
For knowledge of my thinly-veiled past.
Blessed at birth, I brought both joy
And a horrible heart-wrenching anguish
To all who even glimpsed me,
Fragilely shielded from my frightening fate.
The coming of age
The spill of a single crimson drop
The descent into restless oblivion…
All these things have come to pass.
I now await that one monumental moment
When my prison door will be unbarred
When I will find my heart’s desire
When my destiny will at last be fulfilled.
But as for now,
Alone I sleep as dreams unfold,
The child of the dawn.
