Scrambled Egg
The city streets were flooded with sunlight. The thermostat read 113. It was 10 o’clock so it would only get hotter for the next two or three hours. The immense heat caused me to see mirages. I was sweating profusely, and when I stepped out of my car, my glasses fogged up.
Despite the record-breaking heat, I began to bring the groceries in. Everytime I opened the refrigerator I stayed to savor the cool air bursting out.
I got to the point where I was about to pass out, but I couldn’t stop now. There were only a few bags left in the car and I was determined to bring them in without fainting. I grabbed a large bag, and, in my disoriented state, I spun around and dropped an egg. The moment it landed on the sidewalk, it cracked and began to sizzle. It was true! You could scramble an egg on the sidewalk in this heat!
