An Apology to My Students began years ago, when I was an English tutor & started thinking about great writers all in the same anachronistic English class, and how the teacher would grade their work. As the fancy brackets state, this is just fun. It’s not a contest or a challenge; it’s not even a story. There is no plot or character development. If you want to have the good instructor insult a poet or writer, add prequels or sequels.
Please include notes so that everyone can follow new authors.
Emily Dickinson – the poem referenced could have been almost any of them, but I chose “Because I Could Not Stop for Death.â? Robert Frost once complained, “writing free verse poetry is like playing tennis without the net.â? The work mentioned is ‘Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening.â?
Ezra Pound – poem referenced is “In the Station of the Metroâ?
