Bowling for Excuses
Josh, another one of my co-workers, a 5’6 Asian guy with a popped collar and reflective aviators, started the humiliating conversation last night. It’s focus; me and Mike. It’s participants; everyone at the theater except Mike.
“Your boyfriend’s really protective of you,” said Josh.
“He’s NOT my boyfriend!” I exclaimed, tired of everyone, most of all Jason, my manager, dubbing him as such.
“Well he acts like he is. He always gets pissed whenever the other guys talk to you. And he doesn’t want to get back together with Angela anymore.”
“AND he wont let any of us get your number from him,” Richard chimed in.
Jason relieved me for a moment, “Do you want to clock out early and go bowling with me and some guys?”
It sounded like a good idea at first, and I was about to say yes when Richard said, “Is your lady friend coming, Jason?”
I was confused when I heard myself say, “Actually, I think I’m just gonna stay tonight. Another time.”
Why did I care that Jason was bringing another girl along?
I shouldn’t…
