The Party - Part 3
His mother dishes him out a brown chunk of meat, conveniently positioned on top of some unrecognisable greens. The meal is the same as last night and the night before and the boy is glad. He is used to the routine and it would disturb him if anything changed. His mother begins her regular tedious and repetitive recount of her day’s events. The father follows her with his and so does the boy’s older brother. The boy is asked how his day was and he answers with not wanting to participate in any of the activities at school. His brother asks why he is not at the birthday party down the road being held for one of his friends, but no explanation is needed. The boy was not wanted.
The boy dries the last of the dishes and proceeds into the family room again. He switches on another game and imagines what it would be like if anything around him changed. He is flustered for a moment and his character is thrown out a nearby window. He regains his focus on the video game and settles in to play until he is sent to bed.
