It was snowing. If I knew nothing else when I woke up that morning, I knew it was snowing. I rushed to the window and threw open the curtains. Sure enough, it was snowing. I looked at the sky from my window. The flakes swooped down from the rooftop when the wind blew. The trees were blanketed in a white quilt of snow. The woods behind the house were stunning, a mix of dark evergreens and the white coat they wore in the wintertime. I rushed to put on my favorite, worn-out houndstooth coat and pull on my boots.
He always promised he’d meet me in the snow. And each time it snowed, he was there. I always knew I could count on him. Through everything, he was my constant. I could feel him in the wind on my face, the tiny snowflakes landing in my hair. I smiled, and wherever he was, I knew he was there. Somewhere.
If I knew nothing else, I knew it was snowing.
