Hey, Stay Tonight

Gonna’ be tonight,” Terrence said somberly, “Don’t you know I’m flyin’ tonight?

Jody shuddered and turned her back, “This is not the first time you tried to get away.” The air turned cold with tension.

Hey come on,” he tried, “Gonna’ chase tomorrow?

Go,” she said quietly, but before he could she turned and rushed into his arms, “Don’t go! Won’t you stay with me one more day? If we get through one more one more night…If we get through one more night…” But she couldn’t complete her sentence of vain hope any more than she could complete his life.

He wrapped one arm around the small of her back, and tilted her face up towards his, “Watch me now. Jody’s gonna’ get religion…all night long.” And he kissed her.

But she shoved him away, “This is not a horse race, where winners beat the time. This is not a sitcom, where everything’s alright!

Hey, tonight,” he pleaded, “Don’t ya’ know I’m flyin…tonight?

Turning her back to hide the tears, “Go,” was all she said.
