“Oh my god!” I squealed, gasping for breath once I got to the surface. Trey was laughing hysterically. “That wasn’t funny!” I yelled at him while giggling.
“Then why are you laughing?” he teased, splashing me. I didn’t reply, just splashed him back but he floated away.
He looked up because my expression changed. “What’s wrong?”
“The sign over there says, ‘Private Property.’”
“Yeah. So?” He looked at me; raising his eyebrows like that fact didn’t matter at all.
I sighed, “Oh wow. What’s that now?”
Trey glanced at me all confused. “What?”
“So you’ve got the whole jock look and now you’re being bad boy too? What am I gonna do with you?” I joked about him, smiling.
Trey was still staring at me funny. “Well, I don’t know. But anything will be good if it has to do with us. Right?” Us. I love how that sounds.
“Right.” I swam over to where he was and he reached for my hand underwater. I took his firmly and for once, it actually felt like summer. Until everything had to come crashing down on … us.
