Ficlets

Of Course

Trey led the way down the sidewalk, attempting a conversation.

I listened silently, adding comments at the appropriate times. We finally reached the end of the sidewalk. There was a little path back to the woods that Trey followed. I didn’t even realize there were woods anywhere near so this was a surprise. Then again, everything involving Trey was a surprise.

“Okay, now you have to close your eyes.â€? His hands covered my eyes before I could stop him. Trey stood behind me and started walking again.

“Trey.â€? I protested.

“What? I won’t let you run into anything. I promise.â€?

“Promise is a big word.â€? I continued.

“Oh just walk, Kit.â€? was all he replied. We went through the woods for a little while and then I felt water against my flip flops. “SURPRISE!â€?

His hands left my face in a rush and I looked in front of me. The lake area was wide and beautiful but I didn’t enjoy the whole view because Trey pushed me into the water. But I did grab his hand, pulling him with me at the last second. Of course.
