Dark League [League of Awesomeness 2075 Or Beyond Challenge]

A dimly lit world swirled around Jearn’s head. The light bobbed tantalizingly close. Water dripped onto something hard and plunked out a steady rhythm.

The shouting returned, “In the name of the G.A.M., recant!” Something stiff and covered in leather struck the left side of his head. Blood, sweat, or both flung away and splattered, interrupting the rhythm of the slow leak.

Head lolling, Jearn mumbled, “I just…I just want to write…” Rasping breath. Quiet cough. ”...how I want to write.” Something else, heavier and bare metal, struck the right side of his head.

A dark whisper came in his ear amid the ringing, “Blasphemer. There is only one way. We are the way. Read. Reply. Conform.”

He’d heard it before. He’d hear it again, if he lived that long. There was really only one thing for him to say.

Drawing what breath he could behind countless broken ribs he hurled along with blood, spit, and a tooth, “Down with the League! Long live individuality!”

BAM !

I went all dark because, well, I can. I mean, really. I’m going to offend myself? Really this is about the only thing that worries me about the league, that if I’m not careful, if we’re not careful, it will turn into something inclusive and stifling. I don’t want that, so if it ever feels that way to anyone, let me know. Thanks for the challenge, Trafalmadorian.

A ficlet with a message. I love it. And me being my usual sacrilegious self, this reminded me of something funny: the Monty Python film Life of Brian, where everyone’s shouting about how they’re individuals, and the one guy stands aside and says he’s not. Whatever, you had to be there. :p

I really liked the slo-mo which then sped up with the blow.

It sort of reminded me of that scene in Galdiator where they are standing in the dark corridor, and then the door opens and things get really heavy…

Very nice twist on the outcome of the LoA. This reminded me of the Plato quote : “This and no other is the root from which a tyrant springs; when he first appears he is a protector.”
