She's Been Kidnapped!

I took several pictures of the late summer flowers in the park. I thought Devon would have run out of bread crumbs and have joined me by now. I turned around to face the lake, but she was gone.

“Devon?” I called out. I took a few steps and looked really hard as far as I could see. She must be playing a trick on me, hiding. “Devon! This is not funny! Come out right now!”

A girl screamed, a door slammed, and a car pealed out. I turned. I saw Devon’s pink shirt and golden curls in the window. “DEVON!” I screamed. I recognized the large man driving! The car took off too fast for the park speed limit and I chased after it. It turned right out of the Park and nearly missed a bus.

I ran home. I was yelling and crying and out of breath.
“Honey slow down, what’s wrong? What happened?”

“He took Devon! That lawyer man! That fake lawyer! He kidnapped her!”

“Call the police!” Mom ordered, “Are you sure it was him?”

“I’m sure, Mom. It was that big black car that was parked down the street the night he came.”
