A Trip Back to the Concert

Maya:

So I show up at Wendall’s at the prearranged time, hoping against hope that Perry will have forgotten. But no such luck. As soon as I arrive, we head down to catch the end of the Uncle Louie and the Polka Dots concert. Perry is practically skipping with excitement.

We get there just as Uncle Louie is saying, “Thank you, thank you ladies and gentlemen! Please, do come to our next concert!”

Before I can tell him to shut up, Perry yells, “Encore!” Wendall and I both glare, and, to our horror, the band starts up with one last song.

“I had…a tuna fish sandwich…I wish…we had some cheese…” I zoned out until they were done.

“Come on,” said Wendall. “We’ve gotta get backstage.”

We went around the back of the stage, but the door was being blocked by a kid in a rain poncho, wielding a toilet plunger. “I’m not even gonna ask,” I say.

“No fans allowed backstage,” Plunger Boy states. “Sorry.”

“We need to talk to Uncle Louie,” Wendall retorts.

Plunger Boy is not sympathetic. “Too bad, so sad.”
