Not of This World

Lacey had the flu and was feeling dizzy. On the car radio her mother had a country music station playing, a new artist named Rissi Palmer, she had to admit it was a pretty good song called I’m Not of this World.

Lacey and her mom were going to Home Depot for paint. Her mother stopped and talked to everyone she saw, she even tried to help them find what they were looking for.

“Mom, they can find it themselves, or here’s an idea, let an employee find it for them, it’s like their job, not yours,” Lacey said exasperatedly.

“Oh hush Lacey, I’m just trying to be helpful,” her mom said.

“Mom, they’re strangers, can we just like get the paint and go?”

“A stranger is just a friend you haven’t met yet,” her mom said cheerily.

Lacey swore that her mother was an alien, no person could be that weirdly cheerfully happy All the time.

“Mom are you a pod person?,” Lacey asked.

“Oh dear I think you drank too much cough medicine again.” Her mom said.

“No, I don’t think I drank enough,” she said.
