Secretly I Want to Bury in the Yard, the Grave Remains of a Friendship Scarred

Secretly I want to bury in the yard, the grave remains of a friendship scarred. But why I don’t, I’m not sure. Friendships like this…they don’t just end, no matter what happens.

As I walk to school through the light fall fog, he comes up behind me and gently grabs my arm.

“Hey, can I walk with you?”

“Sure,” I say, even though I can’t look him in the eyes.

“What’s up with you lately? You haven’t been too social or returned any messages. We haven’t done anything together in like two weeks.”

“I’m just, I have a lot of homework lately,” I say unconvincingly.

“No you don’t Tess! Don’t lie to me, you know you can’t lie,” he says with a small grin. “Really, what’s wrong?”

“It feels liks things have been different between us lately, since…you know.”

“But you said that you’re okay with it. You know I’m getting counseling, and I’m never even thinking about suicide again. You’re usually always supportive, so why not now?”

“Because I feel like it’s my fault!” I yell at him through my tears.
