We ran out of gas ten miles from town. Oh great. We’re going to die, was all I could think about. Those.. those..things were catching up now. This was it.
“James…” I whispered.
“Yes Anna?” he replied.
“I love you. With all my heart.” I cried into his shoulder.
“Sh.. Sh.. it’ll be alright Anna. I’ll protect you, always. You know that.” He stroked my hair trying to soothe me. it wasn’t working. All I could think about was little Ken at home with my mom. How worried they must be. We should never have gone away. I knew it was a bad idea. I felt it in my bones.
