What reason does this kid have to believe the book killed his father? It could have been a coincidence, because it didn’t happen immediately. Also, you haven’t made the book sound much different than any other old creepy looking book.
Well, it’s a Simon story. The reader who hasn’t read the other stories is at a disadvantage.
This was written to try to break some writer’s block: it may be the last chapter for a while. Sorry. But anyone who wants to pick up the thread, feel free to.
A nerd edit: double checking, I don’t think Tom Baker’s scarf had question marks—I was thinking they’d been added for his final season, but that appears to be an error on my part. I’m sort of leaving them in on Simon’s scarf, however…
Howie, between me, you, Alexa and Nick, there are at least 88 stories written about or featuring my boy Simon. This is extremely gratifying, because up until 8 or so months ago, Simon was just a character who lived in my head. Awesome work developing the kid’s history and thanks for taking my half-formed idea and transforming him into a real, live boy.
Here are some of Simon’s other adventures are here: Requiem for a Cat Lady (The first Simon story, written by yours truly) http://ficlets.com/stories/704 Simon’s First Exorcism http://ficlets.com/stories/4441 Booze & Babes — The Bad Beginning http://ficlets.com/stories/9935 Sarah’s Life Before Simon http://ficlets.com/stories/11587 Five Years Later http://ficlets.com/stories/11737 And this weird interview thing: http://ficlets.com/stories/7879
