Resurrection (A City of Heroes Story)
“Why, is that my little girl?” It was her mother’s voice, but something was wrong. It sounded artificial somehow.
“My, god, Lizzie.” Robert couldn’t hide the horror in his voice. “What did they do to you?”
“Dad?” Tabitha asked. “What’s wrong?”
Elizabeth’s beautiful face that he so vividly remembered destroying stared at him, a slight smile on her face. “Oh, they saved my life. You thought I was dead, didn’t you?”
“But I saw…”
“You saw me lying on the floor, not moving. You never thought to check if I was still alive.” Her voice grew cold. “Never thought to see if your wife who you claimed to love was dead or alive. They found me, took me away, and gave me a new life. And,” she let her cloak drop to the floor, “a new body to go with it.”
Where once his wife’s body was soft, baby-smooth flesh, there was now nothing but cold, hard metal.
“Who…”
“Who do you think, Robert?” a voice from the hall said. “The company looks after it’s own.”
Allen. His best friend and manager. Could this day get any worse?
