Reunion

I hadn’t seen him in ten years and there he was standing in front of me ordering a beer. I knew he didn’t recognize me and I wasn’t going to bring it up. It would be far too embarrassing when he didn’t remember.

As I filled his glass from the tap, I tried to make conversation. “So are you enjoying your spring break?”

“Um.. yeah. Well actually it’s not my spring break. But I decided to take some time off from work to bring my little brother. He’s a freshman at NYU ,” Tad replied. “So, are you a local?” he asked back.

“Yeah.”

“Then why do I detect a Boston accent there?”

I smirked. “I grew up in southern New Hampshire. But I moved down here about 10 years ago. I ended up going to a local college and I guess I decided to never leave.”

“Southern New Hampshire! No way! I’m from Nashua. Where did you live?”

Well, there was no avoiding it now. “Nashua. We went to Elm Street together. Mrs. Kline’s class.”

“Wait. You’re Kiley! I can’t believe I didn’t recognize you. Man, did I have a crush on you back then!”
